Purpose:
The Steven M. Thompson Physician Corps Loan Repayment Program was established in 2003 to increase access to healthcare and promote the retention of primary care physicians in medically underserved areas (MUAs) of California.
Description:
The Steven M. Thompson Physician Corps Loan Repayment Program is a loan repayment program where eligible applicants may receive loan repayments of up to $105,000 in exchange for a 36-month service obligation practicing and providing direct patient care in a qualified facility in California.
Eligibility Requirements
Eligible Applicants:
- Individual
To be eligible for an STLRP award, applicants must possess a valid unrestricted MD or DO license to practice their profession in California. Applicants must be in good standing with the Medical Board of California and not have any other existing service obligations with other entities, including HCAI. They must have unpaid educational loans and not be in breach of any other service obligation.
Eligible Geographies:
Applicants must be working in a qualifying facility in either an eligible geographic or site designation.
