Purpose:

The California Library Literacy Services opportunity provides grant funding for California public libraries to implement adult literacy programs. California Library Literacy Services provides free tutoring to help adults across California achieve their literacy goals. 

Description:

The purpose of this grant is to address the critical impact of adult literacy levels in California by helping adults meet their life goals and aspirations. Accepted applicants will join California Library Literacy Services in the 2026-2027 project period and are expected to run ongoing literacy programs. Funds for ongoing programs are awarded annually.

Eligibility Requirements

Eligible Applicants:

  • Public Agency

Check that your organization meets all eligibility requirements: Is a California public library or supporting agency, such as a governmental agency, non-profit library foundation or Friends group; can commit to providing library-based literacy services in alignment with the CLLS Mission, Values, and Program Essentials; and has at least one staff member who will attend an information session.
