Local Government Waste Tire Cleanup Grant Program (TCU20)

Purpose:
CalRecycle oversees the Waste Tire Cleanup Grant to provide funding for collecting, removing, transporting, recycling, and disposing of California waste tires from tire piles and illegal dumping areas. Funds are limited to the removal of waste tires along public rights-of-way or on private property with less than 500 tires on site or 500 to 4,999 tires with affidavit from the property owner.
Description:
CalRecycle oversees a competitive grant program to provide funding for collecting, removing, transporting, recycling, and disposing of California waste tires from tire piles and illegal dumping areas.
Eligible applicants include: Local governments (cities, counties, or cities and counties) as defined in PRC section 48617, Special districts, Qualifying native American tribes and Joint Powers Authorities (JPA) where all participating entities are otherwise eligible.
Funding: $1,250,000 available for fiscal year (FY) 2024–25 - $100,000 for individual grant awards and $250,000 for regional grant awards.
Projects with existing tire pile(s) that are a serious threat to public health, safety, and the environment, serving disadvantaged communities or are located within the Southern Border Region (San Diego and Imperial counties) will be considered first.

Eligible applicants are:
Local governments (cities, counties, or cities and counties) as defined in PRC section 48617, Special districts, Qualifying native American tribes and Joint powers authorities, where all participating entities are otherwise eligible.
Eligible Geographies:
Existing tire cleanup sites of 10+ tires is a disadvantaged communities (DAC) of > 70% or are within the Southern Border Region (San Diego and Imperial counties) will be considered for funding first. This includes tribal entities or the Southern border region (San Diego and Imperial counties) that are cleaning up tires on both sides of the border.
