Purpose:

The licensed Mental Health Services Provider Education Program (LMH) increases the number of appropriately trained mental healthcare professionals providing direct client care in a qualified facility or area in California.

Description:

The Licensed Mental Health Services Provider Education Program (LMH) makes awards to eligible applicants currently licensed and practicing in an eligible mental health profession for loan repayment of up to $30,000 in exchange for a 24-month service obligation practicing and providing direct client care in an eligible geographic or approved site designation. 

Eligibility Requirements

Eligible Applicants:

  • Individual

Must possess a valid and unrestricted professional license to practice as a mental health professional in California, be in good standing with licensing board and/or certifying organization, not have an existing service obligation with other entities, including other HCAI programs, not be in breach of any other health professional service obligation, have unpaid educational loans, and provide 32 hours or more per week of direct client care.

 

Eligible Geographies:

For a facility to qualify, it must be in an eligible geographic or site designations.

Funding Source Notes:

The Licensed Mental Health Services Provider Education Program (LMH) receives funding through a $20 surcharge for renewal and licensure fees of psychologists, marriage and family therapists, licensed clinical social workers, and professional clinical counselors in California.

The manner in which the grant funding will be delivered to the awardee. Funding methods include reimbursements (where the recipient spends out-of-pocket and is reimbursed by the grantor) and advances (where the recipient spends received grant funds directly).

Funding Method Notes:

The LMHawardees receive two annual payments during their 24-month service obligation. The first payment is issued to the awardeeupon completing the first year of their service obligation.  The second and final payment is issued upon the completion of the service obligation.
