Purpose:

Assembly Bill 185, Chapter 571, Statutes of 2022, Section 55 of the Education Omnibus Budget Trailer Bill provides $15 million from the General Fund for the Educator Workforce Investment Grant Program: Computer Science for allocation to one county office of education to provide targeted support focused on strategies for high-quality Computer Science instruction learning experiences aligned to the California Computer Science Content Standards.

Description:

Assembly Bill 185, Chapter 571, Statutes of 2022, Section 55 of the Education Omnibus Budget Trailer Bill for the 2022–23 California State Budget provides $15 million from the General Fund for the Educator Workforce Investment Grant (EWIG) Program: Computer Science for allocation to one or more county offices of education. The California Department of Education (CDE) will, to the extent possible, facilitate the coordination among the EWIG grantee and the subject matter projects currently authorized by state statute. Applicants may submit an application in partnership with one or more institutions of higher education and/or one or more nonprofit organizations.

In an effort to expand the state’s capacity to support teachers, paraprofessionals, and other educators with targeted support focused on strategies for providing high-quality Computer Science instruction and Computer Science learning experiences aligned to the California Computer Science Content Standards developed pursuant to Education Code Section 60605.4, and as part of the EWIG Program, the CDE is providing this Computer Science Professional Learning Grant: Partner Entity Request for Applications (RFA).

This EWIG: Computer Science Professional Learning Grant will fund one successful applicant for a total of $15 million from May 1, 2023, through February 28, 2025. (Timeline subject to change. Refer to the CDE 2023 EWIG: Computer Science RFA web page for the most up-to-date timeline.)

Eligibility Requirements

Eligible Applicants:

  • Public Agency

Lead applicants must be a county office of education with demonstrated expertise in developing and providing professional learning to teachers and paraprofessionals in public schools serving kindergarten and grades one to twelve, inclusive. Applicants must be able to demonstrate knowledge and capacity to implement the California Computer Science Content Standards in a manner that aligns with the Statewide System of Support.
