Purpose:

The purpose of the Vocational Nurse Scholarship Program (VNSP) is to increase the number of appropriately trained Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) providing direct patient care in a qualified facility or area in California.

Description:

The Vocational Nurse Scholarship Program (VNSP) makes awards to eligible applicants currently accepted or enrolled in a certificate, diploma, or accredited Associate degree program that prepares them to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse for a scholarship of up to $4,000 in exchange for a 12-month service obligation practicing and providing direct patient care in an eligible geographic or approved site designation within six months of graduation.

 

Eligibility Requirements

Eligible Applicants:

  • Individual

Must start training program by September 30, 2025, be enrolled in a minimum of 6-semester units, or its equivalent, until program completion, graduate after January 31, 2026, not have an existing service obligation with other entities, including other HCAI programs, not be in breach of any other health professional service obligation, maintain a GPA of 2.0 or greater until program completion.

Eligible Geographies:

For a facility to qualify, it must be in an eligible geographic or site designation.

Funding is through a $5 surcharge for renewal and licensure fees of Licensed Vocational Nurses in California.
